The Whiskey That Shaped Pittsburgh

a poster of a whiskey barrel

Pittsburgh has a long history as a beer town, but before Prohibition, Western Pennsylvania was whiskey country, long before Kentucky took that honor. Old Monongahela Rye was the first style of American whiskey to gain widespread recognition, long before bourbon took hold in Kentucky. Made from local ingredients and the distinct limestone waters from the Monongahela River.

Almost lost to history, several local distilleries have taken on the task of reviving this spirit that shaped not only our region, but the history of America itself.

The Industrialist Hotel and The Rebel Room are proud to celebrate these local craftsmen and "The Whiskey That Shaped Pittsburgh."
